We exclusively use European-milled cotton to ensure our fabrics are made with the highest quality and ethical adherence.

Cotton stands as the most widely utilized fiber globally, thanks to its advantageous qualities of softness, comfort, and breathability. Additionally, cotton fabric boasts superb natural absorption properties, ensuring a high level of comfort during all-season wear. The fibers adeptly absorb and release perspiration, enabling the fabric to breathe effectively.

Impostor uses cotton in its core collection of button-down shirts. The cotton shirt remains one of the most enduring staples of the work wardrobe, for men and women alike. However, far from being confined to corporate environments, it has been seen on women throughout key moments in film, fashion, and cultural history. Able to be styled in endless ways and worn in just about every environment imaginable it is no wonder it is such a must-have item. Ranking near the top of every wardrobe essential list you can find, the cotton shirt deserves your proper attention. The perfect cotton shirt, fitted to you and properly cared for, will be a staple of your wardrobe for years to come.

Why is cotton a more sustainable choice?

First and foremost - not all cotton is created equal! Always be mindful of the origins of your cotton and the practices they use in cultivation. However, by and large, the environmental impacts of cotton are far lesser than just about any synthetic fiber, particularly when cotton is used in a garment that is constructed and cared for to last.

At its root (or bud!) cotton is derived from the fluffy fibers of the cotton plant, making it a renewable resource. Unlike synthetic fabrics, which are derived from non-renewable fossil fuels, cotton is grown annually and harvested for its fibers. Additionally, cotton is biodegradable, meaning it naturally decomposes over time, reducing the environmental burden of non-biodegradable materials.

The manufacturing process of cotton fabric is energy-efficient, especially when compared to the energy-intensive production of synthetic fabrics. Cotton undergoes a relatively simple process from field to fabric, requiring less energy and reducing the carbon footprint associated with its production.

When cotton products reach the end of their life cycle, they decompose naturally. This minimizes the environmental impact of textile waste compared to synthetic materials, which can take centuries to break down.

How to best care for cotton garments?

To clean your cotton garments we recommend a cold hand wash or eco-dry clean. Avoid the use of bleach and fabric softener at all costs.

Try to wash cotton less frequently to maintain its shape, colour and quality.

To prevent shrinkage, it's crucial to steer clear of tumble-drying linen garments. Opting for air drying is consistently the most effective approach. Lay the garment flat or hang it on a clothes rack.

When it comes to storing cotton garments, it’s ideal to keep them in a cool dry place after they are fully dry. Since cotton tends to crease easily, it is best to store your cotton shirts by hanging them up.

We always recommend ironing on low heat or steaming to maximize the life of your garment.
