Our Values

Our mission at Impostor is to use our platform and practices to champion positive change in our wider community, and the fashion industry as a whole.

As a business, our core values are empowerment, sustainability, and craftsmanship. These are deeply intertwined, and at the core of everything we do.

In a world gripped by rapid change; in technologies, trends, and tastes, we endeavour to stand as a beacon for things that endure. We take pride in our commitment to a slower approach to fashion, one that is principled in its impact.

Female Empowerment

At the heart of Impostor’s very ethos is its commitment to empowerment. Our dedication to this cause extends beyond the clothes we create; it's woven into the very fabric of our identity. We believe that every woman deserves to feel confident, comfortable, and empowered in her own skin. Our made-to-measure approach ensures that every piece is tailored to fit each unique body, celebrating the diversity and individuality of women.

We believe in empowering women to feel their best in their professional lives, and built our company after noticing an evident gap in the availability of high quality professional garments that suit the full spectrum of female body types and stylistic preferences.

Our supplier relationships are also deeply rooted in our desire to empower women; collaborating with local female entrepreneurs who uphold the highest integrity and belief in giving back to their own communities through mentorship and opportunities. By supporting and championing women throughout our supply chain, we contribute to a more inclusive and empowering fashion industry.

Sustainability

We’ll be the first to admit, the fashion industry has a lot to answer for. Globally, it is the 2nd most pollutive industry, following only the oil and gas sector. The most effective way to address this? As consumers we need to reconsider our habits of massive overconsumption, and as companies we need to shift our messaging from encouraging this behaviour - and shift our own practices away from rampant overproduction. At Impostor, we take accountability for being part of this industry which has a huge negative impact on the environment and we are committed to being part of the vital positive change.

Our dedication to sustainability is reflected in our choice of materials. We use eco-friendly natural and biodegradable fabrics, as we strive to reduce the demand for resource-intensive and environmentally harmful textiles.

First and foremost, we are committed to upending the conventional business approaches to fashion that result in monumental numbers of garments ending up in landfills. Through a strictly made-to-order model, we only create pieces that are desired - and that will FIT. In fast fashion, it is very typical that returns are simply thrown away as it's often cheaper for the business, which the majority of returns attributed to poor fit. No overproduction, no surplus, no waste, no incinerators. Because of the investment in custom pieces, we stick to timeless collections that buyers can wear for years to come, rather than driving trends to encourage unnecessary replacements (i.e. planned obsolescence).

Lastly, we implement ethical manufacturing practices, ensuring fair wages and safe working conditions for everyone involved in the production of our garments. By adhering to these principles, we contribute to the creation of a more sustainable and ethical fashion ecosystem.

Craftsmanship

We believe in redefining our relationship with what we wear, and that starts with changing our relationship with the people that make them. We hold the craftspeople, the tailors we work with in the highest regard for their skills accumulated over decades of experience. We understand that true craftsmanship is easily appreciable in the difference in quality. Our commitment to delivering meticulously crafted garments is a testament to our dedication to lasting style and durability. Each piece is made with precision and care, utilising traditional craftsmanship techniques garnered over years to deliver the highest standard of quality.

We believe in creating pieces that withstand the test of time, both in terms of style and durability. By investing in quality, our customers are not only cultivating a more individualised wardrobe but also participating in a sustainable approach to consumption. A well-crafted garment not only reduces the need for constant replacements but also contributes to a more sustainable and responsible fashion culture.

Woven Together

We view these values together forming part of the bigger picture: we need to rethink our relationship with what we wear. We need to think intentionally about what we truly need, who makes it, and how to make it last. At Impostor, we view fashion as more than just clothing; it's a form of self-expression, and a responsibility. Our commitment to female empowerment, sustainability, and quality craftsmanship is the foundation upon which we do business every day. If we can make but a small dent in the way consumers engage with the fashion industry, whilst bringing them garments they can recognise in quality and cherish for years to come, we will have succeeded.
